On Christmas Eve,
Taylor we meet,
crayons and pad in hand,
hidden under her sheet.
So excited is she
from her trip to the park,
she draws in her bed,
wide awake in the dark.
She saw Jessica and David,
and her best cousin Holly.
She even saw Santa,
and he was oh so jolly.
What a wonderful day
little Taylor has had,
so she captured it all
on her new coloring pad.

Taylor’s friends are at home,
and not out at play,
their trees need more trimming
to shine Christmas Day.
Jamie’s waited all year
for the Festival of Lights,
now he gets ready to spread
his gifts o’er eight nights.
Dad was up and out early,
to go shop in the city.
He’s waited ‘til now
to buy Mom something pretty.
The neighbors stop by
bringing treats and good cheer,
now everyone is sure
the holidays are here.

Taylor strolls through the park
in the wondrous glow
of bridges and lights
all covered in snow.
So many children
on sled and on ski,
like an old-fashioned card
bringing joy and much glee.
Of course there are boys
all covered in white,
readying their forts
for a big snow ball fight.
And as the carousel twirls
with reindeer that fly,
Taylor hopes they run free
and head for the sky.

The town square is bustling
with shoppers galore,
and the kids all ask Santa
for toys they adore.
An ice skater spins
‘round a snow-covered tree,
Taylor watches in awe
and draws her with glee.
At the chorus she stares
with joy and with shock,
is that brother Billy
singing Jingle Bell Rock?
There’s so much to do
but she knows she must leave.
It’s time to head home,
for it’s now Christmas Eve.

At home she finds Mom
baking cookies with care.
Taylor knows it is Christmas
by the smell in the air.
Mom has frosted a house
baked of fresh gingerbread,
it’s time to decorate it with candies
made of white and of red.
Taylor gives her puppy a biscuit
to end this great day.
And she’s trained him to wake her
at the sound of Santa’s sleigh.
But it is Christmas Eve
so to bed she must go,
to dream of sweet treats
and a fresh fallen snow.
